We are going to answer all common questions about the 4K CCTV camera system, and everything you need to know before upgrading to 4K.

In this guide, you’ll learn:

What is 4K?

4K is the resolution that brings you more pixels than ever but what is 4K, why does it matter, and why do you need more pixels? 4K refers to a horizontal display resolution of approximately 4,000 pixels. Not long ago, 1080p (Full HD) was the sharpest picture you could get. But now, 4K resolution is on the scene, bringing a whole new world of visual detail and clarity to our screens.

4K resolution, at least the way most TVs define it, is 3840 x 2160 or 2160p. Whereas a full HD 1080p image is only a 1920x1080 resolution. 4K has about 8 million (8,294,400 to be exact) pixels, which is around four times what your current 1080p set can display. Digital cinematography and television use different 4K resolutions. In television and consumer media, 4K (UHD) 3840 × 2160 is the dominant 4K standard, whereas the movie projection industry uses DCI 4K (4096 × 2160).

During 2014 and 2015 the 4K television market share increased as prices fell dramatically. In 2020, more than half of UK households are expected to have 4K-capable TVs, a much faster adoption rate than that of Full HD (1080p).

What is 4K CCTV?

4K CCTV also known as UHD (ultra-high definition) CCTV offers four times the resolution of 1080p with a video resolution of 3840 X 2160 pixels. UHD (ultra-high definition) technology is often called 8 Megapixel or 8MP as this is how pixels are measured in the image.

What is 4K CCTV Camera?

4K CCTV cameras possess a high resolution of 3840 x 2160 with over 8 million pixels. And also known as 8MP CCTV cameras / Ultra HD cameras. 4K CCTV cameras deliver over twice clear video than the 1440P, four times more clear footage than the 1080P, and 8 times more clear images than 720P. 8MP CCTV cameras offer crisp and clearer details of objects than ever before, as an image is made of 8,847,360 pixels.

With their distinctive advantage you can do a lot of awesome things. For example, you can easily identify the facial features of thieves and burglars trying to break into your home, clearly read license plates of parked or passing by cars, and the details of the pot plant across the street. If your 4K CCTV cameras support 2 way audio, you can also hear the sound from the burglars or postman. As long as it’s captured with a 4K CCTV camera you will not lose a single detail.

How to setup a 4K NVR?

Setting up 4K NVR is very simple and easy as these are integrated with independent PoE (Power over Ethernet) network interfaces.

  • Install the hard drive into the NVR before turning it on. With a screwdriver it's a very straight forward process.
  • Connect your router through an ethernet cable to the back of 4K NVR. An ethernet cable will go into the ethernet port just above the USB port. Make sure the NVR is powered on.
  • Connect a HDMI cable from the back panel of NVR to a monitor or TV. Make sure that the monitor or TV is set to the correct input (e.g. HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.)
  • Connect the included mouse to a USB port on the front or back of your NVR.
  • Connect an IP camera through an ethernet cable to one of the PoE ports on back of NVR. This will confirm that it is powered on.

Note:-The network LEDs will start to blink on the back of the NVR when you properly connect the Ethernet cable from there to the router. Any PoE ports on the NVR do not have these LEDs. The same applies to the network LEDs that will begin to blink on the back of most cameras once they're connected to an NVR's PoE port.
